Communication a priority for Council

A Special Council Meeting at the District Council of Grant identified a series of recommendations to improve communication across all levels of Council.

At a Special Council Meeting on Friday 22 February, the Code of Conduct for Elected Members was tabled as a key agenda item. This follows a report to Council regarding a recent hazard and the proposed mitigation strategy of training for the Elected Members in Work Health and Safety legislation.

The District Council of Grant is committed to operating with respect and transparency which will facilitate positive outcomes for the residents and ratepayers of the Council area. The purpose of the Special Meeting was to progress the Code of Conduct items, resulting in eight resolutions for Council to implement.

Deputy Mayor Gill Clayfield chaired the meeting and described it as a positive step for Council, with effective communication being a common theme for moving forward.

“The Elected Members are committed to delivering the best results for the community and want to set the tone and expectations for how Council will progress over the next four years. We wanted to ascertain an understanding of issues that may affect Council’s performance and act on this immediately” said Councillor Clayfield.

Councillor Clayfield went on to say that recently “Council has undergone significant change in leadership and have resolved to undertake a cultural review, providing Elected Members and the CEO with qualitative information and recommendations for improvement. Council acknowledges that a strong relationship between the Mayor and CEO is critical and implementing the measures recommended from a review will create a positive working model”.

Further information will be tabled at future Council meetings as it is made available.
