Piccaninnie Ponds in the District Council of Grant has joined the ranks of the world's most important wetlands. The network of springs and limestone caves is now a Ramsar site, ranked alongside the like of the Everglades National Park in the US, the Danube Delta in eastern Europe, Loch Lomond in Scotland, and Kakadu National Park in the Top End.

The District Council of Grant has been successful in receiving over $40,000 from Community Benefit SA to implement the Geared 2 Drive program.

The District Council of Grant's Waste Transfer Stations will be closed on Christmas Day, Tuesday 25th December 2012 and New Years Day, Tuesday 1st January 2013. The Stations will operate as normal on all other public holidays over the Christmas period.

The State Government through the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure, requested the District Council of Grant to undertake the delivery of 'Rural Property Addressing'. Rural Property Addressing has been introduced across the Council area for the benefit of the broader community. This initiative has the support of the Country Fire Service, State Emergency Service, SA Police, SA Ambulance Service, community groups and essential service providers. By the end of 2011, every occupied rural property in South Australia will have a nationally recognised address, based on a simple location system. Not only will this improve the delivery of regular services, it will assist in the protection of families in the event of an emergency.

2011-12 DRAFT ANNUAL BUSINESS PLAN - PUBLIC MEETING Council is currently in the process of developing the Annual Business Plan and Budget for the 2011-12 financial year.

The District Council of Grant adopted a $20 M budget at its Council meeting on Monday night. With a strong focus on maintaining and upgrading essential infrastructure in the district, the Budget provides for a total increase of 5.6% in General Rate Revenue with most households receiving an average of 4-5% increase.
