Payment Methods
Council now provides you with several methods to pay your rates electronically:
Via the Internet
You will need to have your eCouncil reference number handy. This can be found on your Rates notice. Minimum payment $20.00. Maximum payment $1,000.00. To pay your account via the internet click here.
Pay by Phone (Interactive Voice Response)
You will need to quote Info Pay Number 4325. You will also need your eCouncil reference number handy. This can be found on your Rates notice. Minimum payment $20.00. Maximum payment $1,000.00. To pay your account via this service please phone 1300 303 201.
Pay by BPAY
Call your Bank as you do for Telephone Banking Service. You will need to quote your Biller Code 9647 and your BPAY Reference Number found on your Rates notice. You can get further information on BPAY by clicking here http://www.bpay.com.au/

Quarterly Payments
Ratepayers will again be able to make quarterly payments on their rates, payable in September, December, March and June. A rate account showing the quarterly amount payable will be sent to each ratepayer 30 days before the due date.
Council offers an incentive to those who pay their total account on or before the September instalment - a BONUS waste disposal voucher which entitles the bearer to 2 additional disposals.
Fines for Late Payment of Rates
It is important to note the LAST DAY TO PAY RATES on the notice. If rates are not paid on or before the due date, a 2% fine will attach to the total amount in arrears. A further amount, in accordance with the Local Government Act, will be added at the expiration of each month thereafter.
Pensioner Concessions
If you wish to apply for a Pensioner Concession for your Council rates, please call into the Office at 324 Commercial Street West, Mt Gambier or the Branch Office at 7 Charles St, Port MacDonnell to complete an application form. Council will then forward this on to Department for Communities and Social Inclusion for approval.
Rate Payment Assistance Package
If you are a Pensioner or self funded retiree and your general rates have increased by more than 20% from last year (excluding recent sales and development) you may be eligible for a Council rebate.
If you are having trouble paying your rates, an arrangement for fortnightly, monthly or other payment plans can be negotiated with Council.

Valuation Objections
You may object to the Valuation referred to on your rate notice in writing, served personally or by post, to the Valuer General within 60 days after the date of service of your rate notice. Further information may be obtained from your rate notice.
