Management of roadsides is important for safety, fire management, township appearance, and the provision of services. The roadside slashing program is carried out annually to reduce fire fuel loads and manage potential fire hazards during the fire danger period. This slashing program can commence earlier or later in a year, dependant on growth conditions. Slashing the roadsides too early can result in unsatisfactory regrowth leading into the fire danger period.
Council undertakes slashing of roadsides in line with the following guidelines:-
for sealed roads with road reserves up to 20 metres wide, full width, where conditions allow
for sealed roads with road reserves over 20 metres wide, three slasher widths
for unsealed roads and other areas at intersections etc., slashing is undertaken as required by the Works Manager, or as directed by Council.
If you would like further information about roadside slashing, contact Council.
