Identity Crime
Identity Crime is criminal activity in which a person uses a false identity to commit a crime. Identity Crime is most commonly associated with fraud, but it can also be associated with activities including people smuggling, drug trafficking, money laundering, paedophilia and terrorism.
The Commissioners of all Australian Police forces have jointly developed a policing strategy to address Identity Crime. The purpose of the strategy is to reduce this type of criminal activity, and to provide assistance to the victims of 'identity theft'.
