Port MacDonnell Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum holds an interesting collection and display of maritime artifacts.

The Museum occupies a small historic building in Meylin Street, that was the original Port MacDonnell Council Office.

There is a surprisingly large display set in two rooms.  One is rich in information and artifacts which tell the story of Port MacDonnell as a historic trading port and how it became Australia's Southern Rock Lobster Capital.

The second room is filled with displays about the many ill-fated ships which came to grief in the area.

There are many artifacts displayed including a bell and signal cannon from the Admella, ship logs, diaries, communication equipment and timbers from some of the many ships which foundered on the rugged local coastline.

The museum is located at 49 Meylin Street, Port MacDonnell.

Opening Hours:

Sunday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm but closes at 3:30 pm during the winter months.

Other times can be arranged for group bookings by contacting Veronica Jenkin on 8738 7259.
