Dog Registration

Registration Details

Within South Australia and in accordance with the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995, any person responsible for the control of dogs must ensure that their dog/s are registered in Dogs and Cats Online (DACO).

Dog registrations fall under two categories:

  • Standard Dog – A dog that is both desexed and microchipped
  • Non-Standard Dog – All other dogs

Registration can be completed online by the dog owner or District Council of Grant Customer Service staff are available to assist with the online process face-to-face or over the phone.

Owners must have the following information on hand ready to enter:

  • Email address
  • Drivers licence
  • Concession card details (if applicable)
  • Credit card or VISA/Mastercard debit card
  • Your dogs microchip number
  • Desexing certificate (if applicable)

Annual Registration Renewal

Dog registrations expire annually on 30 June. Registrations must be renewed annually by 31 August.

Each owner registered with an animal within DACO will receive renewal information via their nominated preferred contact method. Step by step instructions will accompany the renewal reminder detailing how you can renew your pet via DACO.

Failure to Register or Renew Dog

Under the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995 (the Act), dog owners found keeping an unregistered dog of three or more months may be expiated by the relevant authority for $170.00.
