Roads / Footpaths

Roads

The District Council of Grant has a large road network consisting of some 505 kilometres of sealed road and 1,030 kilometres of unsealed road to maintain.

Council continues to strive for a road network which is well maintained and accessible to visitors and residents.

All Council Asset Management Plans can be found here.

Not all roads within the District are managed by Council.  A number of major arterial roads are managed and maintained by the Department of Planning, Transport and Industry.  These roads are:

  • Princes Highway from the District Council of Grant boundary to the Victorian Border
  • Riddoch Highway from Tarpeena to Port MacDonnell
  • Casterton Road from the Princes Highway to the Victorian Border
  • Nelson Road from the City of Mount Gambier boundary to the Victorian Border
  • Carpenter Rocks Road from Grant Avenue to Dixons Road
  • Sea Parade/Eight Mile Creek Road from Riddoch Highway to Green Point Road
  • Tillers Road from Eight Mile Creek Road to Nelson Road
  • Kangaroo Flat Road from Princes Highway to the District Council of Grant boundary

Council constructs footpaths based on the needs within the area and safety considerations. New footpaths are generally built beside major roads, where the pedestrian numbers are greater.
